Wolf in sheep's clothing
"Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing, but underneath are ravenous wolves" - Matthew 7:15

From the Editor of Out of the Blue™

You who know this space - the one my father christened Out of the Blue™- know it to be but one of the voices he used after he lost his larynx to cancer.

Here, under this masthead, he shared with you his thoughts on current events, placing them in historical, political, philosophical and theological context.

Here, he professed his love of Christianity and our American way of life.

And here, he pledged his allegiance to the Cross of Christ and the Stars and Stripes.

He saw all of you as his small flock with whom he shared this love and allegiance.

Many times, he left his flock in search of the lost lamb.

Sadly, that lamb has now revealed itself to be the ravenous wolf about whom our Lord warns us in the Gospel of Matthew. This wolf seeks to dine not on one unfortunate lamb but to make off with the entire flock, promoting an ideology antithetical to that of my father, under his Out of the Blue™ masthead!

The wolf in this unfolding parable seems to lack both the moral character and common decency to respect my father's legacy, and appears bereft of the slightest sparks of creativity and initiative needed to find its own voice under its own banner.

Rather than do actual work, it cloaks itself in my father's and claims it as its own.

It would take my father's voice and distort it.

Knowing my father as I do, I can say with absolute certainty that this turn of the worm would disturb him greatly.

I am equally certain that his Christian faith would have compelled him to help the wolf find its own path through the wilderness.

With his passing, I am just as certain he would now have me try to help the wolf achieve that end.

So, rather than attempt to silence its howl and dissuade it from contributing its ideas to the debate among the body politic, as misguided as I believe those ideas to be, I offered to help the wolf find its own voice under its own masthead rather than the one it now tries to pilfer.

But that is not the way of this wolf.

This wolf would trample my fathers legacy and the very bounds of civility.

Matthew - the Apostle - tells us how Christ in His Sermon on the Mount warned those false prophets how, at the Judgement, they would be denied God's mercy...

"Many will say to me in that day, 'Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?'

Then I will tell them, 'I never knew you. Depart from me, you who work iniquity.'"
